Dr. Robert O'Connor's
Biography
Sharyland has a
rich tradition of excellence and I want to continue to build on these
traditions. I believe one of my
strengths is my daily energy and enthusiasm complimented by a broad diversity
of experience. I have taught at all
grade level campuses from Elementary through High School. Overall, I have 15 years administrative
experience, 10 years as a Superintendent.
This experience has allowed me to gain knowledge in all aspects of educational
leadership.
My wife, Kerri,
and I have both been public educators for over 24 years. We have two children,
Kristen, currently practicing family law in California and married to Drew, a
SpaceX Engineer. Our youngest, Carolyn, is a freshman at Harvard University.
I have been
intricately involved in district finances over the past 13 years. In my leadership roles in three different
districts, I have been involved in three successful bond programs, three
successful tax rate elections, three building programs which included two
athletic facilities, additions/renovations to facilities and the construction
of a new High School.
Along with a
strong financial background, I bring a vast amount of experience as an
instructional leader. In multiple
districts, after a collaborative effort, we improved two low-performing high
school campuses that are now recognized in U.S. News and World Report as being
among the top performing campuses in the nation. The focus is to develop the whole child and
help prepare our students for their futures.
I received my
Doctorate in Education at Texas A&M Commerce where I was recognized as the
Doctoral Student of the Year. In recent
years, I have presented often at State and National educational conferences on
a variety of topics. I am an active
member of multiple professional organizations including Texas Association of
Mid-Size Schools, the Texas Association of Suburban/Mid-Urban Schools and the
Texas Association of School Administrators.
I believe as educators we must continue to grow professionally and share
our gifts with each other.
I look forward
to working with the community and staff as we build a vision for the future of
our children in Sharyland ISD. I would
like to dedicate the rest of my career ensuring that Sharyland ISD exceeds all
of our expectations. Together by
providing leadership, building relationships, and maintaining our focus on
students, we can continue to build a bright future for the students of
Sharyland ISD.
