On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, the Sharyland Independent School District Board of Trustees named Dr. Maria M. Vidaurri as the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent. With thirty three years of experience in education, Dr. Maria M. Vidaurri has served twenty six years as an administrator where she has obtained many accomplishments throughout her professional career. Dr. Vidaurri has spent the last five years as Superintendent of Schools at Robstown ISD. Dr. Vidaurri was named the Superintendent of the Year for Region 2 in 2017-2018.

A native of Premont, Texas, Dr. Vidaurri started her career in Alice ISD as a Teacher, Elementary Coordinator, Assistant Principal, and Principal. After gaining thirteen years of professional experience, she relocated to the Rio Grande Valley where she served as Coordinator of Curriculum, Principal and Federal Programs Coordinator at Hidalgo ISD. Dr. Vidaurri spent two years as Federal Programs Director at Sharyland ISD and three years at La Feria ISD as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction.

As an active participant in professional organizations that are designed to cultivate lifelong learning, Dr. Vidaurri is a PTA Lifetime Member, a member of Texas Association of School Administrators, and a member of Texas Council of Women School Executives. Additionally, she is the Secretary of South Texas Association of Schools.

Dr. Vidaurri is a proud graduate of Texas A&I University- Kingsville, where she earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education, Masters of Science in Educational Administration, Superintendent Certificate, and Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership.

By law the Sharyland ISD is required to give notice to the public of a finalist for the superintendent position at least 21 days before taking action to employ the person.
