The contents of this page are to provide teachers information about the current Texas Educator Certification Examination Program.  The most common exams teachers request are the exams required to add a Bilingual or ESL Certification to their existing Educator Certificate.  

To add an ESL Certificate:

• Prepare for the TExES English as a Second Language Supplemental (154) exam
• Register to take the exam
• When you receive your passing scores, log in to your TEA account to request that the ESL Certification be added to your current Educator Certificate.  This is not added automatically when you pass your test.  You need to submit the request and pay an additional fee.

To add a Bilingual Certificate:  You need to take 2 exams - 

• Prepare for the Bilingual Education Supplemental (164) exam
• Register to take the exam
• Prepare for the Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test (BTLPT) Spanish (190)
• Register to take the exam
• When you receive your passing scores for BOTH exams, log in to your TEA account to request that the Bilingual Supplemental Certification be added to your current Educator Certificate.  This is not added automatically when you pass your tests.  You need to submit the request and pay an additional fee.
