David Keith

Secretary

David Keith was born in Edinburg, TX, and split time growing up in South Texas and East Tennessee until 5th grade, where Keith family finally settled in San Manuel, TX. David’s mother is Maria Elida Zamora, and father is Billy Dean Keith, and the move to San Manuel occurred when J.A. Zamora, a rancher/farmer/businessman who had a homestead on Laguna Seca Rd., passed on and left the 60-acre ranch and house to his daughter Elida.

Growing up on the ranch through junior high and high school, David and his brother Billy learned the value of hard work, as cattle and horses were a major part of their daily activities. The ranchero lifestyle, picked up from his Zamora family, quickly became a part of his life, and the family would always be tied to South Texas.

In 1991, upon completion of high school, David enlisted in the United States Army, and was an Active Duty Soldier, serving as a Unit Supply Specialist for a calvary unit stationed at Fort Knox, KY. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Army, David would move back to the Rio Grande Valley, and attend the University of Texas Pan American, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, while working at Lone Star National Bank as a Credit Analyst.

David was always an avid basketball player, and the longing to coach became so strong, that he decided to seek a position as a teacher/coach. This brought him to Sharyland ISD in 1999, where he applied to teach history, and to coach basketball, and he was hired as a 7th Grade White Team Football Coach, and 7th Grade Red Team Basketball Coach. Over the next 18 years, David would strive to move to the next level of coaching and became an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Sharyland High School under Rudy Garcia. Six years later he became the Head Basketball Coach.

While working as a History Teacher, Teen Leadership Teacher, Head Basketball Coach, Assistant Track Coach, and the first Sharyland ISD Skeet Shooting Team Instructors, David was able to also receive his Masters Degree In Educational Administration and become a Certified Secondary Principal.

David and his wife, Rosette Callie Keith, have lived in the Sharyland Independent School District for the past 17 years. They have four children, Sidra, 26, who graduated from Sharyland High School, graduated from Texas State University as an Industrial Engineer, and is currently living in San Marcos. Callie and Gavin Keith are the “twins” and will graduate from Sharyland High School in 2024. Liv is the youngest of the Keith kids and will attend Sharyland Pioneer High School and graduate in 2026. All of David and Rosette’s children were educated in the Sharyland ISD educational system.

David and his family are members of Palm Valley Church in Mission, TX, and are Christ followers. Worldwide and local mission work through both the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Palm Valley Church is a major part of who David is. Working to help inspire and impact all people, both young and old, is at the very core of who David is, and the platform of teaching and coaching has always provided an opportunity for both of those things to flourish.

David’s extensive background, and experience in the educational world, has provided an opportunity to continue to help teachers and students as he serves as a trusted friend, former colleague, mentor, Coach, and leader in the Sharyland ISD community. It is his goal to help provide a perspective of someone who has been in the classrooms, courts, and fields of Sharyland ISD, and will bring that perspective to the board room. David’s Transformational Leadership style provides for an ongoing support for successful programs in Sharyland ISD, while ensuring that the future of all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, support staff, and community volunteers, are provided all that they need to ensure success.
