Program Brochure
Purpose of the Program:
Junior year is a crucial time for high school students. Oftentimes, these students are in need of a personal mentor whom has knowledge or work experience in their preferred career field, and that can help them obtain answers to some of their education- and/or career-related questions.
The Sharyland ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department just culminated this year's student mentorship program! We are currently seeking community and/or business partners whom are interested in mentoring a high school junior-level student for next year. The purpose of this program is to match successful community professionals with aspiring high school juniors to ensure that our students graduate from high school with a college and/or career ready mindset. Simply put, the mentor’s role would be to provide guidance and support to the student as he/she is making decisions regarding where to go to college/university and/or what major or career to pursue upon graduating from high school.
Time Commitment (1-2 hours per month):
Each community/business partner will be assigned one to two students max. Community/business partners that are interested in participating are encouraged to invest a minimum 1-2 hours of mentorship time per month to their assigned student(s) during the period of December through April of this current school year.
The monthly time commitment is a recommendation, but could be modified and/or broken up in to several sessions, as needed, to meet the needs of the students and the community/business partner. The meetings are to be informal in nature, and the CTE Department will provide information that can be used to guide the monthly discussions. The long-term impact of mentoring can be life and career changing. Are you ready to make a difference in a student’s life?
Timeline of Events:
The following timeline provides a listing of events that each community/business partner would be participating in. As stated above, the one- to two-hour monthly time commitment would be the ideal, but could be modified and/or broken up as needed to meet the needs of the students and the communitybusiness partner.
